Brody Jenner is breaking transition.
The reality star, who welcomed daughter Honey Raye Jenner on July 29 with fiancée Tia Blanco, recently opened up about how his own complicated childhood relationship with dad Caitlyn Jenner shaped his own parenthood journey.
"I think that what I'm most excited about is doing things differently than my father did," Brody shared in his Aug. 10 YouTube video, adding that Caitlyn "wasn't really around for me growing up."
In fact, that relationship with his dad has influenced the way The Hills alum wants to be with his kids, noting that he sees himself, "just doing the exact opposite, being the absolute best father I could possibly be and getting ready for the journey and just so very excited."
However, despite rocky times in their relationship Brody and Caitlyn remain on good terms as the Olympic gold medalist—who shares Brody and son Brandon with ex-wife Linda Thompson—was among those celebrating Brody and Tia at their baby shower earlier this year.
And although Brody is ready for this new chapter, there was a time where the 39-year-old wasn't sure if he should step into the role of dad.
"To be totally honest here, I didn't really know if I could really have kids. I just had no idea," he continued. "Going into this relationship, Tia was the absolute perfect person. She is my better half. She is the most incredible woman I've ever met in my entire life, and I think the universe does things the way it's supposed to."
He did admit that he and the pro surfer got pregnant "very fast," but added that Tia is "the right one… with all my heart."
Brody confirmed that he and Tia are now a family of three, announcing their baby girl in a sweet Aug. 10 post.
"Momma and baby are in perfect health," Brody and Tia captioned their joint post. "We are so incredibly in love and have been cherishing this precious time together as a family. We want to thank everyone for all the love and support."
But while Brody wasn't always confident in his ability to be a good dad, Tia had absolutely no doubts, noting that he's all she could have hoped for in a partner. As she told E! News back in March, "He is everything I dreamed of as a little girl growing up when I would think of my dream man."
